Conciliation in this week

Aleksandar Vučić and Michael Davenport will probably meet this week to patch up the latest conflict, diplomatic sources told „Blic.“

Vučić confronted Davenprot and Kocijančić

Our well informed interlocutors said that meeting is not schelduled, nor any side asked fot it, but that it should be expected in following seven days.

Prime Minister accused the EU an its Delegation chief for financing media organizations like BIRN for leading a campaigne against Serbian government.

Europen Commission‘ spokesman Maja Kocijančić strongly denied these accusations, after which Vučić reacted in an even stronger manner.

Boris Tadić, former president of Serbia, said that Vučić „overreacted.“

Tadić thinks that Prime Minister „overreacted“

– Straining the relations with the EU because one legitimate journalist’s question is counterproductive and irresponsible, bearing in mind the interests of Serbian people.

Even if government representatives consider that certain journalists are not responsible and objective, they need to react in a democratic way, not labeling those journalists as liars and foreign mercenaries.

That kind of verbal agression is against the basic values of democracy – Tadić stated for „Blic.“

Vučić stated that he is „wonder-stricken by the fact that Maja Kocijančić, in the name of the EU, is trying to shut him up.“

Political analyst Dušan Janjić says that this conflict represents even bigger pressure on Serbian Prime Minister.

„Kocijančić’s reaction was inappropriate“

– The problem is very serious and deserves a different reaction than the one Prime Minister gave the EU representatives. Also, Kocijančić’s reaction was inappropriate.

This conflict should outgrow in a constructive dialogue – says Janjić, and adds that „all European embassies are lobbying in the name of their company’s interests.“
